As long as there's you

And so, typically catching everyone on the back foot, Mr David Bowie has surprised the world by releasing a new single on this, his 66th birthday!

And here it is - Where Are We Now?:

It's as engmatic as one might expect. It's apparently a tribute to his time spent in Berlin. It's Mr B's first single for ten years, and will be followed by a new album The Next Day which is due to be released in March. How exciting!

  1. Good news! So much for the much-vaunted rumours of his eccentric reclusiveness and total retirement... some of the articles last fall were almost as dire as the old National Enquirer's famous "sad last days" hatchet pieces.

  3. I saw/heard this on Breakfast TV this morning - I instantly downloaded it to my phone but then had the torture of a whole day at work unable to listen to it again as I didn't have headphones with me…

The new album cover has illicited some rage from Ange (among others) it's the Heroes cover with a white square covering his face and the new title in a new font, that looks a lot like other fonts)

I quite like the cover, like the lead off single it nods to his time in Berlin, and more importantly than record covers, I *love* the song.

The song and the pre-order for the album have Mr Bowie at number 1 on both iTunes charts - which is a nice 66th Birthday present for him after he gave us all such a nice present on his birthday.

    1. I heard it on the Today programme on Radio 4, and immediately snaffled the video for my YouTube site and blog.

I'm not convinced that will be the final artwork, given that it only appears on iTunes and not his website.

Regardless, it's a good song, and a brilliant way to welcome the Maestro back to the musical world - the media buzz is incredible, and can only get wilder and wilder. At least, as Muscato wisely noted, it has killed the endless speculative "non-articles" about Bowie we've been getting used to reading...

Where Are We Now?, indeed. Jx
